The “Flight of the Bumble Bee”
I’m sure I’m not the only one with clutter around the house. No matter how much I tackle the problem is creeps back up like a weed. This is one of the reasons why having a tinge of OCD would be nice.
I’m working on teaching the boys how to pick up after themselves, but that is a loosing battle. Yes they are good about doing chores and staying in routines, but not matter how much I harp on them the toys migrate through the house.
I’m totally amazed at how much paperwork it takes to run a household. Not only do you have bills, but you also have school papers, calendars for different activities, magazines, and the list goes on. If you don’t stay on top of the paperwork it grows like a virus on any flat surface, which would happen to be my kitchen counter & in the mud room.
Clutter is normally tolerable, but occasionally you have an unexpected guest heading your way and you panic. Oh no!! I can’t let them see this pig sty that we live in so you frantically start to clean and throw the clutter in cabinets, drawers, and closets so it’s not in plain sight. One day I called my sister while she was in the middle of frantic cleaning & straightening and I asked her if I caught her at a bad time. “Well,” she said, “I’m doing ‘the flight of the bumble bee’ because we have guests coming over soon.” There was no explanation needed but I responded by laughing. What a unique way to put it!
I’ve done “the flight of the bumble bee” myself many, many times, but I must say there are times where I don’t even bother. I do however make sure I clean when a big group of people are coming, which we all do so people don’t think we live in filth. If you really think about it though whenever you have visitors they don’t bring white gloves to test your dusting. As long as things are de-cluttered, straightened, and you’ve done your occasional cleaning then all is well.
It’s amazing to me how understanding Mom friends can be when it comes to supporting each other on messy houses. Plus, just think, if your house is a mess then your friends will leave with a sigh of relief knowing they’re not alone, and even Mom’s that look like they have it all together battle with clutter and keeping up with everything too.
For those of you who know me feel free to stop by anytime. My house isn’t showroom perfect and never will be. It’s lived in, and I’d rather spend time with my boys than be cleaning all of the time because it’s a never ending battle anyway.
Have you done the “flight of the bumble bee”?

The “flight of the bumblebee” does not happen very often in our house. Cleaning is the last on the priority list; therefore, I don’t mind doing the cleaning for guests every once and awhile as it helps force me to do good cleaning every so often.
I have noticed though that smaller houses with clutter look messier than larger houses with similiar clutter. Since I live in a small house, I have noticed that just a small amount of clutter gets completely in the way. So frustrating. However, on the flip side, a smaller house is quicker to clean. Ok, I have convinced myself, small house with clutter is better
